Granite Care & Maintenance PDF
Care & Maintenance
Granite is a worry-free surface, requiring
few special precautions. It is easy to care for, stain resistant
and and extremely durable. Hot pots and pans won't damage
it. It won't chip, scratch, or crack under normal use. There
is nothing more elegant than granite and when cared for properly,
its durability can last a lifetime. To maintain your countertops
beauty, Benchmark Surfacing Solutions recommends following
these simple steps.
Spills and Stains
Granite, although hard, is porous and will
absorb liquids when exposed for long periods of time. It is
recommended that spills of acidic liquids, such as fruit juices
or vinegar, be blotted up immediately.
General Cleaning and Care
The use of a mild soap and water solution
on a routine basis is recommended to maintain your countertop's
appearance. Stronger chemicals, however, may be harmful when
used on your countertop. Potentially harmful compositions
include:
- Ammonia-based products
- Oils or turpentines
- Scouring type cleaners
- Rust removers
- Acidic-based cleaning agents
- Waxes or finishes requiring high-speed
polishing
- Paint or varnish removers
- Lacquer thinners
- Drain cleaners
- Contact adhesive solvent
- Oven cleaners
Annual Maintenance
To protect your granite surface, Benchmark
applies a sealer that provides a barrier to potential stain-causing
agents. The sealant, while durable, may need to be reapplied
every one to two years. Contact Benchmark Surfacing Solutions
for details.
